Getting involved in the 22nd...
As a member of the Group, you are expected to wear the approved uniform of the Scout Association, whether you are a Beaver, Cub Scout, Scout or Leader.
The uniform is the most visible sign of your membership. We expect all of our members to take care of their uniform. It has cost you or your parent/guardian money to provide, and we want you to look smart at all times. You do not wear your uniform for certain activities, so you do not need to worry that it will get damaged. You will always be told when you are not required to wear your uniform. In general, however, you are expected to wear it to weekly meetings. Full details of the uniform can be obtained from your Section Leader.
The Group Scarf
The Group Scarf is an outward sign of your membership of the 22nd Wimbledon Scout Group. Everyone in the Group wears the same scarf to show that we are all members of our Group. The scarf is emerald green with a yellow border. The scarf is an essential part of your uniform and you will need to purchase one from your Section Leader prior to your investiture. Scarves need to be looked after properly, and should be kept clean and ironed.
Group T-shirts
The Group has a special T-shirt which includes the Group name and Scout emblem. They come in various sizes and can be obtained from your Section Leader. The T-shirts are an advisable addition to the uniform, especially when doing outdoor activities. They also provide a unique identity when not in full uniform.
Subscriptions
Being a member of the Group places an obligation on you to help cover our costs. Obviously, we do not expect you to pay for everything and that is why we have an Executive Committee, one of whose functions is to raise funds for the Group. By this means, we can keep our costs to individuals as low as possible.
We do ask, however, that you pay an annual membership fee and this is set every July for the following Scouting year. This goes directly to the Scout Association as a contribution towards their costs.
We also require a subscription to be paid towards the running costs of the Group. About one half goes directly to the weekly costs of running the Colonies, Pack or Troop, whilst the remainder is a contribution towards the overall running costs of the Group. This money is spent on maintaining our Headquarters building, vehicles, equipment and membership fees to our District, County and HQ.
We do not ask for this money at one time. We spread it out over the year and usually ask that it is paid in three instalments at the beginning of September, January and April. We will write to you before the first meeting in September giving you full details. We hope that you find this arrangement is considered good value for money and would request that you help the leaders by ensuring this is paid promptly.
